I randomly came across this Creative Mornings/Vancouver talk by Jessica Hische who is an amazing letterer and illustrator. I’m a huge fan of her work, as most people who are familiar with it are.
Although she comes from a design background, in the first part of the talk she makes a great case about why designers should learn to code. Which, by the way, she she has done.

I’ve been working on PressBooks for a little over a year now, and we recently did a complete overhaul of the site’s main design as well as the webbook read view.
For those unfamiliar with PressBooks, it is a web-based ebook publishing tool built on top of WordPress. Pretty cool, huh?
When opening a MacBook Pro Retina screenshot (cmd+shift +3 or cmd+shift+4) in Photoshop, make sure to resize your image’s width back down by half under Image > Image size in order to get the proper screen resolution. Otherwise you’ll end up with an unnecessarily large image and file.
A few months ago I redesigned my client site nudgedesign.ca. I had already played around with the CSS3 @font-face attribute, but wanted to use it a little more on my site. Like a lot of us who had been restricted to the web-safe fonts for years, we suddenly felt like kids in a candy store.
