(Really late) Spring Cleaning

It’s the end of spring and thought this highly neglected site was in need of a clean up.

Since this site is mainly for sharing discoveries on the web and the occasional rant, I decided to simplify the architecture by removing categories all together and only working with tags.

This is all still a work in progress so you may come across things that aren’t fully baked yet.

Please, please, please use child themes, or, why you should always use a child theme

I know this has been said many times before but after last week’s Grisaille update, sadly, I’m still getting emails like this:

Hi there,

I just wanted to let you know that your latest theme update will take me HOURS to fix!

As we say here in Quebec, pas l’fun.

So for those of you who aren’t aware, always use a child theme when doing any kind of style modification to your themes. It will avoid everyone having to deal with this unpleasant and frustrating situation.

Grisaille 1.5 update

There’s finally a new update available for Grisaille. As usual, you can update it directly from your dashboard or download it directly from the WordPress.org theme repository.

This update was primarily to fix responsive issues with the header. You can see the (short) list of what was updated here.

Troubleshooting your WordPress plugins

I worked in the cellular industry for a very long time. Too long. Part of the job was to help customers troubleshoot their phones (“Did you try turning it off and on?”). Who knew this “skill” would come in handy later for something other than cell phones?

I sometimes get emails from WordPress users asking for help because something borked when they activated one of my themes. The offender is usually one of the plugin running on the website.
